I'm 37 and have been painting my toe nails for years but only in winter
months when I don"t wear my flip flops. I also enjoy wearing a gold
toe ring . I hate shoes and would really prefer my sandles or barefoot.
Was wondering if anyone done anything similiar or if I'm just strange.
My wife doesn"t mind and thinks I should try showing them in public but
we live in a small town where everyone is still 50 years in the past .
Any suggestions?...

If you want to express yourself, might as well get after it while you
can enjoy it, unless it will negatively affect your career. If your wife
is encouraging you.... then it's a no-brainer, Bro! Even cooler if she
barefoots with you!!

I get together with 2 or 3 girlfriends, we let the vodka run wild, and
we get creative on toenail painting, after we attempt sucking the old
polish off of course :') I suggest a masculine design which they came up
with for me...black base with a chrome diagonal stripe. I rarely wear
shoes (stays warm here in Dallas), and believe me, you can't buy ANY
shoes that get this much attention.... WAY positive by female observer's
accounts, and they're not shy when it comes to commenting on something
so unusual. A common one is "Your feet look better than mine". And my 2
toe rings make it all that much more interesting.

Helpful hint - I'm also quite sure that it helps to be a manly 6'4" and
built like a quarterback :^) Not everbody can get by pulling stuff like
this off. You must exude unmitigated masculinity before you even attempt
it!

You are not strange. I'm a 42 y.o. man and have been wearing sized toe
rings for three years now. I started painting my toenails last year in
a neutral pearlcoat called Cotton Candy, and I wear co-ed anklets. I
also wear sandals every chance I get--year round. Women give me
compliments and ask where I purchased the rings & anklets
(www.shelbyslaguna.com and www.toerings.com). They are fascinated that
a man takes such good care of his feet that he actually dresses them
up. Men are silent, but I know they are looking. I believe I am giving
them the courage to try. Go ahead--wear your rings and paint your toes.
For more support, type into your search engine "is it wrong for men to
ware toe rings?" (spelled exactly that way). That should direct you to
the barefoot hip forums page. When you reach the page. go to the full
version, and you should be able to see photographs as well. Take care,
and welcome to the club.

Painting you toe nails? I never heard a man doing that. How can you
toes handle toe rings? MY toes are so sensitive I can't handle anything
on my toes. Whenever I wear sandals, they cannot have the thong
between the toes.

If your toes are hidden in winter, then it's your secret pleaure then?
Kinda the barefooter's equivelent to Victoria's Secret:
it's how you feel that matters since only close-personal-friends
get to see what you're wearing underneath :-)

I've tried nail polish on my toes only a few times.
It looked nice but it was a lot of effort
and only lasts a week or so before the nail grows enough to push it out.
I prefer just buffing my nails smooth.

As to toe rings, I finally sized a nice Celtic design one for my long-toe
that's a full circle, not an open back so it never pinches or hurts.
Toe rings with bare footprints are cute!

Oh honey, you ain't seen nothing!
I went to college on St. Mark's Place in the village
during the punk era, when hair was dyed any color of the rainbow
and piercings were just starting.
I wimped out and didn't do that,
but some guys were rather cute with their fun colored hair
(I had a crush on a classmate with a waist-long purple ponytail
that I still consider the perfect ponytail: thick, lush
perfectly straight yellow-blonde hair like cornsilk
that swished and swayed with the slightest gesture,
joyously amplifying his joy!)

My toes are so sensitive I can't handle anything on my toes.
Whenever I wear sandals, they cannot have the thong between the toes.
My feet too were too sensitive for such things, but I figure it was
a combination of slow acclimation to the unusual sensations
and buying better quality stuff.

As a kid, I was usually given the el-cheapo plastic/rubber beach thongs
with the sharp mold-mark on the strap between the toes.
That felt like a knife trying to cleave off my big toe!
But later as a teen I got better thongs with fabric or velvet
for the strap between the toes, which is a LOT MORE COMFORTABLE.
At first, I wore them at home as slippers a little at a time
until I was comfortable enough to wear them for longer periods of time
and finally to wear them outside the house too.
When I had a paper route, I wore sneakers for the bicycle riding
but had thongs or sandals in the backpack pocket
for the times I was in the hi-rise buildings
so that helped me get comfy with them too.

Dare I say that the Abercrombie & Fitch super-wide leather or foam thongs
are AWESOME! Those give such a HUGE FOOTPRINT and really show off your feet too!
I wish they named them better so you don't confuse them with their ordinary thongs.
Let me try to find a good reference ... "A&F Leather Treads"
(they call them treads instead of thongs, slaps, flip-flops, ...)

The furry ones are hard to get particularly in men's sizes!
